The Training Hierarchy
A Progressive Journey through the Symbolic Mind
The structure within metaphor is hierarchical, so it seems logical to organise the Metaphors of Movement work along these lines. The training is progressive, with hints for higher levels provided in each training. These levels reflect the hierarchy; additional training modules, such as “Masterclasses” (including the trainer’s training, The Dream Experiment, The Hero’s Journey Experience, and “The Initiation”), exist outside this hierarchy.
Level 1. The Foundation
A two-day training that equips trainees to safely practice basic content-free MoM sessions for remedial change work.
(a). Introduction to The MoM Process
- Full outline of process and session structure.
- Neurological rationale.
(b). Metaphor Taxonomy & Digital Change
- The Obstructions (Rules/Values).
- The Containers (Status/Families).
- The Burdens (Responsibilities/Guilts).
- The Bubbles (Beliefs/Values).
Level 2. The Metaphoric Hierarchy
Explores how metaphors lead to idioms and similes. Completes Practitioner status.
(a). Relationships & Generative Change
- The Elevations (Status games).
- Relational Positions (Where we stand).
- The Fulfilments (Emotional trading).
- The Hurts (Emotional injury).
(b). Symbolism & Time Predication
- Dream work and analysis.
- Metaphors of Time.
- Business and Money intro.
Level 3. The Ground Work
Intermediate training exploring self-support and interaction with the metaphoric environment.
(a). How, Where, and Why We Stand
- Supports (Anatomy & Environment).
- The Cause (What we stand for).
- The Leg Work & The Immersions.
(b). All The World Is a Stage
- Acting and performance metaphor.
- Peak performance tools.
- Multiple identities & illusions.
Levels 4 & 5. Business and Money
L4: Business Forensics
- Business structure and vehicles.
- Management and organisational design.
- Branding and departmental identities.
- Business archetypes algorithm.
L5: Metaphors of Money
- Money as liquid (Flow, streams).
- Wealth generation mechanics.
- Cultural and religious relationships.
- The cultural lexicon of money.
Level 6. The Time Portal
The essential portal to higher levels. Advanced training in Symbolic Interpretation: angles, colour, distances, and sounds with time as the basis for all symbolism.
Level 7. Healing, Health, Death and Dying
(a). The War Metaphor: War on cancer, drugs, and the “sick society.”
(b). The Dying: The Doctor as Priest, Living Death metaphors, and metaphors of the deceased.
(c). Paradigms: Diagnostics as metaphor and treatment modalities.
Level 8. The Spirituality
Exploring the evolving metaphoric structure of spirituality and religion, how we are influenced by it and how to free ourselves from it.
- The Enlightenment: Wisdom and ceremonial structures.
- Entities: Relationships between Gods and Man.
- Modern Myths: Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, Slender Man.

Training Path & Prerequisites
Planning Your Progression from Foundation to Mastery
The Standard Practitioner Track
Before moving into specialised or advanced levels, these fundamental requirements must be met:
STEP 1
Level 1 (Foundation) Completion
Requirement for all further study. Establishes the taxonomy and delivery of remedial change work.
STEP 2
Level 2 (Metaphoric Hierarchy) Completion
Requirement for Practitioner Certification. Establishes the analogical and generative change protocols.
PORTAL
Level 6 (The Time Portal)
Mandatory Prerequisite for Levels 7, 8, 9, and 10. You cannot access the “High Metaphor” levels without mastering the submodalities of time and symbolic interpretation.
The “Outside” Modules (Masterclasses)
These experiences exist outside the 1-11 hierarchy and can often be taken alongside your progression, provided the basic foundation is met:
The Dream Experiment
Focuses on the rapid decoding of nocturnal imagery into MoM taxonomy. Open to L1/L2 students.
The Hero’s Journey Experience
An experiential dive into Campbell’s archetypes through the lens of movement. Open to L2+.
The Initiation
A specialised workshop focusing on status shifts and identity transition. Usually requires L3+.
Trainer’s Training
By invitation/application only. Requires extensive clinical hours and mastery of Levels 1-6.
Clinical Advice for Trainees
While it is tempting to rush toward the advanced mysticism of Level 10, the “Leg Work” of Level 3 and the “Business Forensics” of Level 4 provide the essential grounding required to handle high-level symbolic work safely. Mastery of the lower levels ensures you are working with the client’s territory, not just their imagination.

Glossary of Key Terms
Foundation & Level 2 Study Aid
Level 1: The Foundation
Digital Change: A binary shift in the metaphoric state (e.g., being in a container vs. being out of a container). It is an “all or nothing” change to the structural environment.
The Obstructions: Represented by external rules, values, and constraints. These are the walls, fences, and barriers in the landscape that prevent movement based on “shoulds” and “musts.”
The Containers: These represent inherited status, families, or long-term chronic problems. They are the buildings, rooms, or pits that the individual is “in,” which limit their scope of movement and influence.
The Burdens: Objects carried by the individual, representing responsibilities, guilts, and duties. They affect the ease of movement and the posture of the person within the metaphor.
The Bubbles: These represent the personal filters of beliefs and values. They distort perceptions of the external environment, often protecting the individual while also isolating them from reality.
Level 2: The Metaphoric Hierarchy
Analogical Change: A gradual shift within a metaphoric state (e.g., getting higher or lower, moving faster or slower). It is a matter of degree rather than a binary switch.
The Elevations: Metaphors of relative height, representing status games, social hierarchies, and awkward positions. Being “above” or “below” others changes the relational logic.
Relational Positions: Where we stand in relation to others in the landscape (e.g., facing toward, facing away, or standing behind). This reveals the structure of the relationship dynamics.
The Fulfilments: Emotional trading and transactions. These metaphors reveal how people “fill” their needs through others and the cost associated with these trades.
The Hurts: Physical damage or injury within the metaphor (e.g., a “broken heart” or “stabbed in the back”), which provides data on emotional health and past trauma impacts.
Practitioner Tip:
Always look for the Taxonomy first. If you can identify whether you are dealing with a Burden (responsibility) or an Obstruction (rule), the logical intervention becomes immediately apparent.

Well, I’m totally confused about this site now. I turned to Google to help me find how to identify the emotions connected to metaphors we use, as a recently diagnosed older adult person with ADHD. What I’ve seen here are training courses. Hmm. Back to the drawing board (that one is simple eh).
